It’s Getting Close!

27 Mar

I can’t believe we’re already 30 weeks into the pregnancy. It has gone by SO fast!! Only 9 more weekends until Baby G is in our arms.

I’ve had two doctor’s appointments since  my last update. Both were pretty uneventful, which is a good thing at this stage. We go in next Monday for our last ultrasound. I’m very excited to see the Little Miss again. Jordan will get to go in with us for this one – I think I’m more excited about this fact than he is.

While there has been some discomfort, I can’t complain too much – I’ve been able to keep up with my day-to-day activities for the most part. I had my first Braxton Hicks contraction during week 26. It was earlier than they normally start and pretty intense. However, since there’s only been the one, the doctor is not too concerned.

Baby G spent about a week chillin on my sciatic nerve. That I can complain about. That was miserable. There were moments of pretty excruciating pain, especially if I spent too much time walking around. Plus, my leg would have random, peg-legged pirate type spasms. She’s moved, thank goodness.

We also took an overnight “babymoon” to Carmel. Scott and I both needed the opportunity to relax and had a great time. I was rocking the sparkling cider.

Did I mention that there is only 9 more weekends left until Baby G gets here?? That really isn’t much time at all. Each weekend is scheduled full of activities and projects. Hopefully, I’ll be updating more often because, well, there will be more to update on. Here are a few things we’ve got on the burner:

Registry Post – I spent a ridiculous amount of time researching for our registry. I’ve started a post explaining the whole process and why we’ve picked the things we did. The post is taking almost as long to finish as the research…

Nursery – Scott applied some primer to the wall this past weekend and will be painting this coming weekend. We’ve kept a lot of the nursery details a secret. It’s kind of been “our” project but once we’re done, we’ll have lots of pictures to share. There is no theme, just a color scheme. Everything is custom and awesome. I’m anxious to show it off. As a little teaser, here is her crib from Muu. Adorbs, right?

Soundproofing the Master Closet – Since Scott no longer has his man cave, I’ve volunteered to give up our closet. I know… I’m awesome. This will give him some place to play his guitar after the baby is born without having to worry about waking her up. We’ll start this after Easter.

Big Brother Survival Kit – I’m putting together a special package to help Jordan transition from only child to big brother. A few of the items we’ve decided on are his own special burp rags and possibly some ear plugs. 🙂

Meal Planning – We use a meal plan each month to help keep us on budget. I’m thinking June’s plan maybe a little different than most months though. I’ve started researching freeze-ahead meals and am hoping to do lots of things in the crock pot.

The Last Weekend – Our last weekend as a family of three will be special. We’re hoping to plan a fun family day, although I’m sure I won’t feel like being overly active. Then, grandparents willing, we’ll have a nice day as a couple on Sunday. Monday happens to be my birthday and I think that makes it the perfect opportunity to have a “mom day”. Again, I doubt I’ll feel up to a shopping spree but maybe a mani/pedi, a hot bath, and a good book…

It’s a Pink World!

6 Feb

It has been quite hectic in these parts since my last update. We found out that Baby G is a girl and since then, we’ve been surrounded by pink!

It started with some pink balloons and a pink cake:

Then some pink flowers and a pink shirt:

And then pink everything

We’re currently spending every free moment trying to organize so that we can clean out Baby G’s closet. We’ve used it for storage over the past 2.5 years. Once it’s cleared out, we’ll start working to turn it into the most amazing nursery. Ever.

Other than that, not a whole lot has happened. I haven’t had any crazy cravings but my sweet tooth is insatiable. Also, I am in full nesting mode. All I want to do is clean and organize and decorate!

Another Update

31 Dec

We had another doctors appointment Friday morning.

We spoke with the doctor about scheduling my c-section. It will be awhile before we finalize the date but it will definitely be during the 39th week of pregnancy. Week 39 starts on May 28th – Memorial Day and my birthday. That day is out. May 31st is my brother’s birthday. That day’s out. What we’re left with is May 29th, May 30th, or June 1st.

Also, I’m not immune to chicken pox. This didn’t surprise me – I’ve had it twice.

After the chit-chat, the doctor attempted to find the baby’s heartbeat. As she was scanning, her Doppler quit working. Since it was important to check the heart rate, she grabbed the portable ultrasound and we got to see Baby G for few moments. 🙂

Baby G also received their first Christmas present(s)! They included spoons, diapers, blankets, burp cloths and a few newborn sleepers – all in greens and yellows.

We’re not even halfway through the pregnancy and this baby already has a larger wardrobe than I do. Right now, it’s got a gender-neutral, around-the-world theme going on with onesies from Disneyland, Vegas, New York, and Nova Scotia. Of course, I’m no help. In fact, I’m getting ready to order this little gem 🙂

Only a week and a half until we find out the sex of the baby!

Baby G Update

14 Dec

I’ve been meaning to give a Baby G update since before Thanksgiving but the Holidays seem to have gotten in the way…

I am 15 weeks and 2 days now – officially into the second trimester! I still haven’t put on any weight; in fact, I’ve lost 12 pounds. Morning sickness was not my friend.

Sometimes, when I told people about the weight loss, they got really concerned. People suggested it wasn’t healthy, etc. None of these people were doctors. I pee in a cup every time I have an appointment and they are able to make sure my body isn’t breaking down nutrients.

Everything is fine. Apparently, I have plenty of fat and nutrients stored up.

While googling some pregnancy-related item, I came across this Dr. Phil gem. Generally, I think he is a self-righteous poop head but I think he nailed this when talking about pregnancy myths:

“Myth 3. Pregnant women must eat for two; they must gain 25 pounds.

False. North Americans already eat for two prior to pregnancy”

He went on to explain:

Thirty years ago, the average size of babies was 6 pounds. Today the average size is 8 pounds. There are many reasons for this, but one reason is over-eating, particularly unfavorable carbohydrates (breads, pastas, rice), and not getting enough vegetables, protein and healthy fats. As long as a pregnant woman eats properly ” and as long as her doctor is not concerned ” there is no set formula for how much she must gain. Generally, in the last trimester, the baby gains half a pound a week. So, as a general rule, if, during this time, the pregnant woman is not gaining a bit more than that, her doctor may be concerned and her diet should be re-evaluated.”

Anyways, the point is, we’re in the middle of a happy, healthy pregnancy.

Moving on.

Earlier in the pregnancy, we decided to do the AFP screening (tests for Downs Syndrome and other disorders). All women over 35 go through the screening but younger women have the option to as well. The entire screening consists of two blood tests and an ultrasound. I have one more blood test to go but so far, everything is looking healthy.

We had the ultrasound on November 24th. The baby was very active and seems to enjoy punching and kicking and flipping. Here are some of the shots we got:

We have another appointment on December 30th and I’m crossing my fingers that we’ll schedule the c-section.

Following that appointment, we have another one on January 11th. They’ll be doing the anatomy scan to make sure that the baby is developing properly. They should also be able to tell us the sex! 🙂

It’s a Baby!

31 Oct

We’re having a baby!!

(Sorry the pic is so crappy. The scanner was acting a fool and I didn’t fell like dealing with it.)

We found out in late September that we are expecting. Baby G is due June 4, 2012.

We have had two doctor’s appointments and the baby is fabulous. At last Thursday’s visit, the heart rate was 169. The doctor called it “perfect”. 🙂

We are so excited!!

Obviously the whole weight loss thing is going to have to be put on hold. However, I’m going to try to eat as healthy as possible for the next seven months. The more weight I put on, the more weight there will be to take off later. Because I am such a fatty, I could put on as little as 11 pounds and keep the baby healthy. We’ll see how that goes…

Notes to My Skinny Self

5 Jul

I am not too ashamed to admit that when I daydream, I’m always skinny. And super hot. My wardrobe is *amazing* because skinny girls look good in everything, right?

Wrong.

We went on vacay this past weekend. The weather was warm and the clothes were scant… even in Disneyland. While observing some of the women strutting around, I decided to take a few notes for myself. For, you know, when I’m one of those skinny girls.

Notes to Skinny Em:

  • Tie dye pink halter tops are not attractive.
  • Sporting a bikini top and cellulite at the same time doesn’t work.
  • The whole booty hanging out of the cut-offs may look sexy on Rhianna but it’s trashy in real life.
  • Even at a size zero, it is possible to find clothes that are way too small.
  • No matter how in-shape you are, gym shorts should be left at the gym.

And last but definitely not least:

  • Never, ever, ever, ever, ever spend your whole vacation eating salads.

A Snooki Smackdown

8 Jun

Stick figures and Snooki: Two things I never want to be.

Stick figures are lucky though. They can wear anything. I mean, have you seen how low those necklines go without any cleavage?? I’d be arrested for indecent exposure. And those short shorts… I’ve seen chunky honeys trying to wear them. It just doesn’t work.

Don’t get me wrong, I believe in carrying a little budonkadonk junk in your trunk. But for the sake of mankind, please dress it appropriately.

And then there’s Snooki. Some laugh at her. But I applaud her. The lessons she has taught me are invaluable. First and foremost, I am now certain that we are living in end times. Secondly, every time I see a picture of her, I’m reminded of what not to wear.

It’s obvious she doesn’t have much going on upstairs so maybe she just doesn’t realize how trashy she looks. Or maybe she can’t help herself. Or maybe she just doesn’t care. Irregardless, the “woman” needs to learn how to dress.

Holy Bumble Snookie!

I’m going to ignore the pumpkin skin and Marge Simpson hair for right now and focus on the “dress”. Seriously, who with a waist bigger than 28″ (that’s small right? I wouldn’t know.) would wear bright yellow from head to toe? Or at least head to mid-thigh? Which brings me to my next question.

Why mid-thigh?    Why?     Why Snooki why?   Thunder is audible; we don’t need to see the source.

And then there’s the non-weight-related issue. When you can’t tell where your hair stops and your jacket begins – something’s gone wrong.

I have never had to use so many quotations in a post before.

Are there any thick celebrities that do look good?
